So I mentioned on my previous entry, I'm going to talk about the concert and my personal view on it. On that night, I have seen and heard a lot of feedbacks from the concert, Mr Lim has heard a lot of comments too. He requested me to post this entry as a 'feedback form' and hopefully some of his club members will have a look on it. So here how it goes..
First of all, let's talk about the beginning part which was the dancing performance, I know this has nothing to do with the SCC but seriously if they really can't dance that well, I think is best not to ask them to perform at all. I strongly believe that those they are newbie to dancing cos if this kind of standard is considered one of their best, there will be no doubt why they can't win in any competitions.
Now let's talk about the PA group and there's only one word I can comment on which is 'LAN',
in Chinese it means lousy! I have a very high expectation on this particular group because last time when I performed in my secondary school, they did a very very BAD job! my microphone was spoiled and after adjusting for two times, they didn't change a new one for me and just stand there watching me like a idiot who tried his best to sing but ended up being a joker in front of the whole school. Actually I never blame the audience at all because apart from the teachers, most of them are just kids after all. Just always remember this, professional performance comes from the appreciation of professional audience during the show.
Alright back to the main topic again, one serious problem that the PA group has made was the sound effect tunning from the music instruments and microphones. The SCC definitely has good instruments and a few strong singers too, but one problem that I figured out was the sound bass effect wasn't strong enough and the voice wasn't 'concentrated' enough. My meaning of 'concentrated' is that when the voice is produced from the singer, the sound impact should be 'group' together rather than running all over the place, if you are inside a sound prove and Dolby surround theater, the impact is even more powerful. However that night what I heard was tiny cracking sounds coming out from the speaker and it's like being 'disperse' all over the lecture hall. Mr Lim told me that this lecture hall has one of the best audio system in whole Np, well surely I have doubts about this sentence..
It's a very sad thing when you have a good music and great voice and yet getting destroyed by this kind of of stupid issue!
Now let's move on to the singing part. Seriously saying, some of the SCC members can't sing. Take Mr Lim's song as a example, the lyrics was great and no doubt that his partner Angeline has done a great in composing a touching rhythm for it. BUT.. it was completely spoil by the selected singer for that song. She really need to practice a lot on her 'La Ying' and 'Gao Ying' areas, the first part of the song was still fine but she totally lost control of the whole thing when it comes to the most important part which is the chorus. Not only that, some other singers has also made mistakes such as 'Qiang Pai', not following the rhythm flow and not having a good voice control in them.
There's two person that I wanna praise about is the SCC president Tiffany and the talented guy Steve Soh, very confident, nice voice and great talents in them, that's the people we will want to see from a performance. I heard from Mr Lim that Tiffany has taken part in 'Jue Due Superstar' before, too bad that she couldn't get into the finalist because I believe that if she can get into top 20, she might have a chance to replace Kelly Poo. Somehow I saw quite a few similarities between them.
When comes to Rock Music in Singapore, there are mainly three group of people playing it.
First are those Caucasians from other countries and due to their living style, they play rock music like a bunch of crazy freaks with no limit.
Second would be the Malay group, they are more 'open' in their way of doing things and they will play rock music in a very explosive way but with certain limit.
Last will be the Chinese people, one very common sight that I have seen in most of them is that they playing rock music just like playing typical love songs.
One advise that I will give, if you are crazy and 'open' enough, don't play any rock music. If you are not even deeply in love with it, just forget about the whole thing. Don't play any dull music that will make people sleep.
It's damn obvious that the preparation for that night wasn't good enough, the organizer is really doing a bad job for the performance planning. Just take the positioning as a example, where got people put the piano in that kind of position whereby the performer backside facing the audience? It totally ridicules and rude alright, have some sense please.. The only feeling that the concert gave me was like going to a 'KTV session' ?? There's more problem in the organizing which I shall not further comment about it.
Most of the composing parts was done quite well but I personally think that there's some improvement to be make in certain songs. One of the song writer is obviously in-direct copying from Zhou Jie Lun songs, I do have a question for her, if zhou jie lun doesn't exist at all, is she really that capable to write out all these lyrics?
I have another suggestion for them for their next year concert, have a duet love songs in the performance, compose something like 'I Still Believe' will be great, come out with some sweet and happy songs instead all those 'love love love' songs and have only 1 or 2 rock musics will do.
All the above are just my personal views and is not against anyone from the SCC. But trust me that I really seen the effort in all of them and that's a very touching part in all performance. It's not about the money issue, but is about enjoying every part of the music and seeing a professional performance from them. Nothing is best but you can give your best and nothing is more satisfying that giving the best.
